Home Sweet Home

In the small village of Ahuac right outside of Chupaca, 50 minutes from the city of Huancayo lies our countryside Volunteer House with a stunning view over the nearby valley. Visiting another country so far away, with such a different culture, can be daunting, but here in our humble home you will feel welcomed by our family and the local inhabitants and you will be able to enjoy a comfortable stay.

Mi Casa, Su Casa

The house was finished in 2020 with the help of locals, volunteers and generous donations by our friends and supporters and pays tribute to our Peruvian culture.

For those who wish to fully immerse themselves in the Peruvian culture you will have the experience of a lifetime. Though we do speak some English, you will have the possibility to learn Spanish, discover the delicacies of the Peruvian (country) kitchen, and live with a truly Peruvian family in the heart of the Andes.

Volunteers in the house will be able to get their own private or shared room and can use our shared bathroom with a hot shower. Towel and soap are provided as well. We usually cook typical regional food and meals are mostly vegetarian. Since meat is scarce in this region, Peruvians here generally cook with traditional, (organic) ingredients, like potatoes, rice, corn and lentils. Besides that we have plenty of legumes and at the weekly town market we get fresh fruit straight from the Amazon jungle. Good news, WiFi is now available!

La Familia

Evenings are generally for social time, you can do your own thing, talk to your friends and family or join us in the common room. We enjoy watching Peru play football, card-games like Dutch Blitz, and perhaps with a Pisco sour we will get you in the mood to speak Spanish and have a good laugh. Our family is artistically inclined and besides painting and weaving, we also make music together… we could almost start a band with just the family members. Long story short, you’ll have a blast!

Over the years we had hundreds of volunteers stay at our house and you can check some of the testimonials to find out about their experiences. If you want to find out more about a typical day as a volunteer, go to this page.
